Good at Heart or Good by Nature ?

Good at Heart or Good by Nature ?

A friend the other day asked me a simple question. “Do you think you’re a good person?” Nothing more, nothing less. It wasn’t something I had to think over too hard, as I believe I do live my life as the best person I can be.

I am honest, I try to do right by people, help them if I can, raise my son with morals and ethics, and give him a good life, opening him to music, sports, friends and knowledge. I try to care for the environment to the best of my ability, buy earth friendly products, cosmetics not tested on animals, recycle etc. I don’t smoke, I drink rarely and only socially.

To which my friend laughed, and said " yes, you have a good heart and you do all those things . . . What brand shampoo and conditioner do you use?" Perplexed I repeated “What brand shampoo do I use ?” Of course, instantly feeling I would be reprimanded for whatever brand I said ! “Sunsilk at the moment” I replied.

“ And were you aware that sunsilk is one of the leading companies that still test on animals ? And that is only the tip of the iceberg. “

I was mortified ! Not quite believing what I was hearing, I googled looking for more information. Only to find, that it was true, along with many other things that I have in my house.

I have ALWAYS checked my make up and cosmetics to make sure that they were not tested on animals, but it never occurred to me, to check my toothpaste, laundry detergent, shampoo/conditioner, Hair dye, food and much more.

Needless to say I went through the entire list and my house, to see the murdering companies that I was supporting, and was horrified to find all the things that even if were owned by subsidiary companies were still owned by the larger companies.

To give you an Idea I have attached a photo of some of the things I found in my home.

Products Still Tested On Animals

But on the other hand, I found that I did have products that were not tested on animals:

Products NOT Tested On Animals

I just can’t believe that this is not more well known, I felt somehow cheated, unintelligible for not knowing, for not having any idea. Am I that ignorant to think that these things just don’t happen in this day and age?

One thing that i found truely underhanded was this many many people from all walks of life buy products from the body shop, as their products are not tested on animals an
d do not contain animal products, only did you know, that The Body Shop was bought out by L'Oreal one of the biggest offenders of testing on animals, So although you are buying (Overpriced) "Cruelty Free Products" Your money is going straight to a company that does test on animals.

This taken from the President of L'Oreal

"The president of L'Oreal stated that he plans on joining Body Shop's stance of earth-friendly, non-animal-tested products. Talks about the merger and the possibility of L'Oreal adopting Body Shop's human research methods"

But that's all it is still, Just talks and possibilities

I have been shopping since, and rather then reading labels now, for only nutritional values I am reading, if it contains animal products, and if it is tested on animals. I may only be one person, But this one person chooses not to support companies like that.

It doesn't stop there though, Do you own leather products ? Fur's ? What are you shoe
s and purses made out of ?
All the handbags i own are made from canvas like material, Although i did recently buy a handbag from IronFist, Which i did check up on . . . And I am happy to Promote IronFist for this reason . . .

Iron Fist’s goth gone glam Sweet Sugar Skull O Mine bag is made of soft faux-leather and is vegan friendly.

Does the product you use contain Palm Oil ? Did you know in order to establish palm oil land companies clear forests, which causes the death of fauna such as orang-utans and gibbons in Kalimantan, and elephants, tigers and others, including orang-utans, in Sumatra.

If you are interested in arming yourself with knowledge and being aware of the world you live in, Perhaps start here, no one is asking you to turn your life upside down, just asking you to be conscious of the decisions and choices you are making. It is enough that you are fed propaganda and rubbish through media brainwashing, but to be kept in the dark and made ignorant, just isn't an acceptable lifestyle choice.

Growing up I remember fighting McDonald's as I am sure many of you do, to stop using the packing of polystyrene for their burgers. And Aerosols, stopping the companies from using harmful CFC chemicals that was creating a huge hole in the oZone layer. Why is this any different ? Why are people kept in the dark ? Why don't people care anymore ?

Food for thought :- If you haven't seen this Documentary, I think you should. Everyone is happy to spend endless hours playing Zynga Games on facebook, or staring at reality lifestyle tv shows, (I myself am guilty of all of this) What is one hour out of your day, to arm yourself with some useful knowledge ?
